Power of Film

So in a TED talk I watched this year it talked about the universal power of film to change the lives of people. Both because of its accessibility through engaging narrative we can relate to, and because of its accessibility socioeconomically and geographically. Movies have the power to positively change the way people view themselves, morality, and what it means to be human. This is the argument and it is a strong one as I was reminded of again:
Just keep swimming!

Afraid of Ourselves

I was just watching Babel today. And I think I've realized why it has such low reviews. It doesn't take sides, and in a world where everyone is wants to believe that they are the victim and the righteous Babel is a hard movie to take in. I love it though it speaks to so many parts of who we are. We all want to be loved, we all are afraid, it's always easier to be angry, we all have weaknesses we don't want to believe can hurt other people (or at least that they'll just get over it). So much more I could talk about this movie for hours. But its hard. It's really hard.
